Managing Director Israel Cooper tells the story
BuildTech Holdings, established in April 2011, is wholly Canterbury owned and operated. They are an accredited contractor to Fletcher Construction, the firm appointed by the Government to administer and manage the EQC repair work in Christchurch. As such, BuildTech is responsible for the repair and reconstruction of thousands of earthquake damaged homes from Kaikoura in the north to Ashburton in the south.
“The BuildTech management team had worked with one another through separate companies for some 10 years before we joined to establish our new firm. The launch required, among many other things, enough vehicles to keep our team working efficiently. Due to the rough, damaged terrain, we knew we would need rugged, 4×4 vehicles. But we also needed fuel efficiency, as many of our company supervisors spend long hours on the road, travelling from one repair site to the next. How to achieve both was a question seemingly too difficult to answer.
“After contacting Driveline on the recommendation of a business colleague, we relied on Driveline to provide expert recommendations in all areas. Initially, we focused on commercial vans, and by November 2011 we had sourced and financed two vans, two corporate vehicles and four 4×4 dual-cab utes through Driveline, with plans to add approximately two new vehicles per month in 2012.
“We knew we needed vans and utes, but had no idea, really, what types to get. We knew they all needed to be reliable, and I could describe the rough sort we were after, but we relied purely on Driveline’s knowledge to help us make our decisions.
“The result has been a combination of Nissan, Kia and Great Wall vehicles, the latter of which was a new truck manufacturer to Driveline and to us. Extensive research put our minds at ease, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.
“Driveline’s strong relationships and expertise in the New Zealand finance industry have proven invaluable. Remember, we were only a new company. Traditional finance companies wouldn’t have wanted to touch us. Bu Laurie [Brown-Haysom, Senior Business Consultant] was instrumental. He was completely helpful in getting not only a lower than sticker price on the vehicles, but in securing excellent financing options and rates, as well. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Driveline to anyone in New Zealand.”
Despite the distance between Driveline’s Auckland headquarters and BuildTech’s Canterbury-wide location, the relationship is supported without delay or difficulty. Driveline prides itself on its national reach and excellent customer service, allowing even clients on the opposite side of the country to feel as though they’re right next door. For tech-savvy BuildTech Holdings, this was incredibly important, and Driveline has not disappointed.
The “emotional rebuilding journey” has given the BuildTech team something to aspire to in its daily work – a strong personal touch when it comes to customer service. On this, the companies see eye-to-eye, envisioning a long partnership ahead.
