Go Gisborne case study
Originally in Auckland as the owner/manager of Airport Shuttles, Chris Lankshear moved his business and family out of the metropolitan centre and down to the Gisborne area, founding Go Gisborne in 2005.s Both businesses have continually relied on Driveline to source and finance the upmarket, specific transport vehicles required for a busy transfer, shuttle and charter organisation.
Director Chris Lankshear tells the story
“I’ve been in the shuttle and tourism charter business for many years. When I first came across Driveline, I was in Auckland running Airport Shuttles and a VIP car service. When we started, we were very focused on upmarket shuttles and luxury shuttle vehicles. It was a new concept back in those days.”
A longstanding and reliable relationship
Chris and his wife stayed true to what they knew and moved their Auckland-earned shuttle expertise down to Gisborne. Despite the move away from Auckland, the company continues to rely on Driveline for its vehicle needs. Most recently, Go Gisborne has purchased a Dodge Nitro through Driveline, for use in transporting Air New Zealand crew to and from the Gisborne airport.
“Driveline was responsible for sourcing and financing four vehicles for us through those early years. We kept going back. But our business model changed when we decided to shift to Gisborne and focus on air crew transfers and transport.
“The move was a lifestyle decision. The business in Auckland was growing considerably, and we had a young family at that stage. We decided to sell the Auckland business and look for another location.
“We stayed with Driveline even after the move because they make dealing with them – and buying new cars – so easy. No one in our area was selling the Dodge I wanted, for instance. We don’t always have the selection of vehicles down here in Gisborne.
“It’s a lot easier to just ring Driveline and say, ‘This is what I want. Can you find me the best deal’?”
Going the extra mile
“Lance [Manins, Managing Director for Driveline] saw a couple of opportunities for us, and even presented some different model options. I particularly liked the Nitro. We went for a three-year lease, with the option to buy at the end.
“Driveline had our Dodge re-trimmed in leather, as cloth seats didn’t match our standards for a VIP travel experience. Once the leather was installed, I simply picked up the vehicle in Auckland.
“Being a small business, every time we go out to look at a new vehicle, we’re expected to come up with at least a year’s worth of financial records. But not with Driveline. They have all of our details on record. The financing is so easy. The ongoing relationship just makes it all even easier.
“We’ve continually needed multi-purpose vehicles that can be VIP, versatile, cover transfers and tours and travel well over varied terrain. Driveline is not tied up with one particular dealer or manufacturer, which gives them more scope. Driveline always delivers.”
