2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Review

By Lance Manins | Driveline | 22 December 2016 | Posted in Reviews

If there was a moment where the Hyundai Santa Fe firmly established itself in the New Zealand car market, it was 2006.

You probably remember the ad. You know, the one with the toddler driving the Santa Fe around town and down to the beach? It was a risky, daring ad and it certainly paid off, putting a smile on most people’s faces even after they’d seen it two or three times. Here it is again in case you missed it.

The South Korean automobile company went from strength to strength, winning many different awards for the vehicle. These included Best Diesel Vehicle, Best Design and Best SUV for the Family. From a pricing perspective, it was affordable. From a quality control angle, it matched many of its European counterparts. Standard items across the second generation range included anti-lock brakes, stability programming, six airbags, active head restraints, cruise control and a trip computer. The high end models had an upgraded six-stack seven-speaker MP3-compatible sound system, leather trim, power-operated front seats, and dual-zone climate control.

In 2013, the Hyundai Santa Fe was modified using a fluidic sculpture design and new frame to reduce the overall weight. While this helped it take a step up in the overall drive and quality, it meant that the pricing moved into a field which it was previously trying to differentiate itself from.

A new model today comes at  a slightly higher cost but the Santa Fe remains the best selling Hyundai model in New Zealand, impressing Kiwis with its safety and handling, more high tensile steels and a full range of cabin connectivity features.

Although it doesn’t feature in New Zealand’s Top 10 Best Selling Cars, there’s no doubt the 2017 Santa Fe will definitely be drumming up lots of general interest.

The 2017 model is already drumming up quite a bit of interest, and for a good reason.
