Lance has a 23-year history in the vehicle and finance industries. He first worked as a fixed interest and futures trader before moving into vehicle finance, first with Fleet Lease (now Custom Fleet) and then set up and managed a vehicle leasing company for a group of investors.
When changes to New Zealand’s accounting and tax laws took place in 1999, he capitalised on the new regulations to provide a more beneficial lease package for his own clients through his new company, Driveline. The development of SmartLease, still offered by Driveline today, allowed Lance and his team to better and more carefully manage what happened at the end of each lease term, meaning no nasty surprises for clients.
Known for his honest approach to business, Lance has gained huge respect and trust from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and finance providers over the course of his career. This has enabled Driveline to form strategic partnerships that allow it to compete and succeed against major players in the market place by providing a client-friendly service.
Lance says, “We pride ourselves on showing clients ALL the options. We’re not locked into any one way of doing things. We’re far more consultative than the other guys.”
Paul is responsible for business development and is an expert in the entire vehicle lifecycle system, bringing with him over 20 years of relevant experience.
Born on Jersey, part of the Channel Islands located between the UK and France, Paul moved to New Zealand in 1986. He is an engineer by trade and a licensed auctioneer having worked at 2 car auction houses and also on the wholesaling side of the industry importing cars from Japan. He was also corporate sales manager for KIA Motors and part of the team that launched the KIA brand in New Zealand, setting up the company’s infrastructure and finances.
Paul’s consideration for his clients is one of the reasons Driveline has such excellent client retention and referrals. “When clients know they’ve done the right thing, that’s the best feeling – knowing they can walk away confident and feeling like they’ve made the right choice.”
Self-professed “old man”, Laurie has been in the motor industry for 35 years and Driveline for nearly 10. After 20 years with Shell Oil he spent the next 15 years owning a car yard… which means dealers can’t pull the wool over his eyes.
Laurie is loyal to his clients and they return the same with their repeat business. He’s a regular volunteer and has served as head of his local athletic club and as part of a community business roundtable. The active grandfather of “half a dozen grandkids” has run 12 marathons and remains a fitness buff.
Laurie says, “I guess my customers come back to me because they know they’ll get an honest appraisal. I try hard; simple as that. There’s no pretension. If someone doesn’t get what they originally came to us for, you can bet your boots we worked every angle to try to get it. And if we can’t help them, we tell them. It comes down to honesty, I suppose. Honesty, integrity and a lot of hard work.”
Steve is committed to finding the right vehicle for his clients and with a 15 year career in the motor industry he knows what he’s talking about.
Over the years Steve has worked for many of the major dealerships and specialised in selling Audi, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Suzuki and Subaru. He is a fountain of knowledge and his clients enjoy a customer service style that is honest and open.
Steve says “I love the independent nature of what Driveline has to offer, the result is that clients end up with a vehicle that’s right for them which ultimately keeps them coming back year after year”.
When he’s not talking cars he’s a dedicated family man spending time with his wife and two young sons.
Alan brings a wealth of industry knowledge with him, having worked in a range of diverse roles right across the motor industry. He reckons the motor industry is in his blood, and it must be because, since the age of 14, he’s never done anything else.
Starting out as a young mechanic, he quickly progressed up the ranks, over time moving into sales management, vehicle brokering, and even a spell as a motoring writer for NZ Cargo Magazine.
Alan says “We’re very close to our clients and I like the customer first approach Driveline takes. People are making decisions about large sums of money and they need the right advice.”
Outside of work, you guessed it: more cars. Alan is a passionate race car driver and you’ll often find him down at the race track or tinkering with his BMW.
Rob has a strong background in the automotive industry. He worked at Colin Bower Cars before running a motoring publication for Licenced Motor Vehicle Dealers, looking after their advertising needs. This gave him the opportunity to form many relationships with dealers throughout the industry.
Providing his clients with a great customer experience is his top priority. Rob says, “We have a relaxed atmosphere here in the Driveline office; it creates a great working environment and the whole experience flows on to what our customers experience. Every single one of our staff are experts in their fields and we all share our knowledge with each other.”
When he isn’t working, you’ll find Rob out on the water fishing, cooking up a gourmet meal, enjoying the outdoors or travelling abroad.
Paul brings a lot of experience to the Driveline team. Over the years he has specialised in selling a number of different car brands, including Mitsubishi, Nissan, Skoda and Holden.
Paul says, “I enjoy talking with people from different business backgrounds. Driveline’s approach is customer focused, so we’re always looking at what works for our customers. For me, that is how you build customer loyalty.”
When he’s not at work, Paul enjoys kayaking and fishing.
