Meet the 2019 Ford Everest

By Lianca van Oudtshoorn | 1 June 2018 | Posted in News

Available from September 2018 and offered in the single premium Titanium variant, the 2019 Ford Everest brings significant upgrades and advanced technology including AEB, with a state of the art powertrain for greater touring range and capability. Building on the award-winning Everest, the 2019 Everest Titanium can now tow more, head further off-road and save fuel around town with the most fuel efficient, refined yet capable Everest to date.

The Ford Everest has seen its off-road capability widely praised by 4×4 media and enthusiasts, with its Terrain Management System, tuned suspension, tyre and wheel package. This thorough approach has also seen Everest’s on-road manners and civility highly lauded, with its wide span of capability bringing Everest to a broader audience in an SUV-focused New Zealand market.

“Everest is still a relatively new nameplate in New Zealand, but we’ve seen a positive response from customers and Ford has honed the new model based on their feedback,” said David Herbert, Marketing Manager, Ford New Zealand. “We’ve found Everest owners are a dedicated, passionate group, and we’re pleased it evokes such a response. We are confident they will appreciate the improvements with the new 2019 Everest and that with its array of enhancements and great 7-seat capability, it will attract even more customers.”

Efficiency, safety and savvy
The 2019 Everest Titanium continues to fulfil its role as a highly advanced technology-led SUV, with upgraded driver assistance features, equipment levels, and dynamics that allow it to feel nimble around town, yet remain a force to be reckoned with off road.

Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist uses Inter-Urban Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection and Vehicle Detection[i] to detect pedestrians and objects, as well as vehicles, to bring the Everest to a complete stop, to help mitigate rear-end collisions and road-traffic collisions with pedestrians. The system, which functions at speeds above 3.6km/h, is now standard on the Everest.

Keyless entry and push-button start is now featured in the 2019 Everest, offering customers quicker engine starts, improved convenience and easier entry and exit, whilst it also gains Ford’s hands-free power tailgate.

Everest continues to offer reversing camera and rear parking sensors as standard, and Active Park Assist (APA), reducing stress by enabling semi-automatic parking. The driver needs only to apply the throttle and brakes, as the system steers the Everest into the parking space.

SYNC 3[ii] with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto[iii] compatibility is also standard in the Everest Titanium, including Bluetooth, an 8.0-inch full colour touchscreen and reversing camera. SYNC3 enables use of Google Maps[iv] and Apple Maps, as well as standard in-built sat-nav for use when the Everest is beyond mobile coverage areas. The mapping system also features a ‘breadcrumbs’ feature, allowing an unmarked off-road route, for instance, to be mapped as it’s traversed.

In addition, the 2019 Everest Titanium may receive complimentary map updates for up to seven years when a scheduled service is completed at a participating dealer.

Function by design

The Everest’s rugged design has been refined with a new grille treatment incorporating a secondary grille texture against Everest’s chrome brightwork. Everest Titanium features a new 20-inch split-spoke alloy wheel design, while darker wheel accents further accentuate the machine cut surface of the alloy, adding more drama and a premium appearance.

Inside Everest’s spacious cabin, new colours and materials deliver a premium experience. Soft-touch surfaces in contact points around the cabin improve comfort and quality, whilst the new ebony interior theme brings greater depth and allows brightwork, contrast stitching and shadow chrome highlights to stand out more strongly than before.

State-of-the art powertrain

Standard on the Everest Titanium is Ford’s new-generation Bi-Turbo diesel which is coupled to an advanced 10-speed torque-convertor automatic to bring greater torque, improved flexibility and a quieter, more comfortable drive.

With 500Nm from a low 1750rpm, the Bi-Turbo delivers a greater torque spread, with the 10-speed’s close ratios reduce gaps in power and acceleration to make steep, slippery hill-climbs, for instance, much easier. The Bi-Turbo offers a combined fuel economy of 7.1L/100km and now has a towing capacity of 3100 kg.

“Everest fitted with the new Bi-Turbo and 10-speed automatic raises the bar when it comes to vehicle refinement and outright capability both on and off road” said Chief Program Engineer, Ford Everest, John Willems.

“Increased power and torque means we have more potential but it’s the mating of the bi-turbo to our new 10-speed automatic that really provides access to, and the greatest use of, the Bi-Turbo’s impressive output,” he added.

A model of refinement
The 2019 Everest Titanium’s enhanced off-road capabilities are matched by its manners on-road, delivering a significantly smoother, quieter passenger experience. The Everest Titanium takes advantage of revised suspension geometry, which improves the ride and handling for greater composure on- and off-road.

Cabin quietness is also assured thanks to Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The Bi-Turbo engine and transmission noise is markedly quieter than the 3.2L Duratorq thanks to an engineering focus on quiet operation, as well as advanced sound insulation to ensure the Everest is as smooth as silk.
