What’s news in the car industry?

By Lianca van Oudtshoorn | 13 September 2017 | Posted in News

Here’s a look into what has been happening in the car industry, both here and abroad.

The Toyota Hilux pipped the Ford Ranger as the top selling vehicle in August in NZ. The Ranger is still the best selling vehicle so far this year by quite some distance.

The Frankfurt Motor Show is as big as it gets in the car industry. And all the major automotive brands were there to showcase their latest and greatest models and prototypes. The Telegraph has a look at some of the highlights.

Jaguar Land Rover want to lead the way with eco-friendly vehicles. As a result, they want to make all their new vehicles fully electric or hybrid from 2020.

BMW are also looking to get more eco-friendly. The German automotive giant wants to add 12 new battery EV’s to their fleet by 2025.

NZ Autocar reviews the 2017 Mazda CX-5, one of the best selling SUV’s in New Zealand.

Automotive news analyses the sales figures of new cars sold in NZ over the last 5 years. They look at which makes and models are popular and what Motor Industry Association CEO David Crawford had to say about the numbers.

China is putting a plan together to move away from petrol and diesel vehicles towards electric and other eco-friendly alternatives. This comes off news that they are now the largest electric car market in the world.
