Every Fully-Electric Vehicle (EV) On Sale in NZ in 2026

By Lance Manins | Driveline | 10 September 2026 | Posted in EVs - Fully-Electric Vehicles

Every fully-electric vehicle (EV) on sale new in New Zealand in 2026. Eighty eight BEVs, from city hatches to utes and vans, sorted the way you’d shop.

Five years ago you could count the electric (EV) vehicle options on two hands. Now there are more battery-electric models on sale in New Zealand than ever… from a sub-$31,000 city runabout to a three-quarter-million-dollar Rolls-Royce.

And new names arrive almost monthly, most of them from China.

So I’ve done the hard yards and pulled the whole lot together in one place. Every battery-electric vehicle (BEV) you can buy new in New Zealand right now, sorted the way you’d actually shop for one – by size and type, not by some industry pecking order.

Small hatches, family SUVs, luxury sedans, people movers, utes and vans, plus separate run-downs of the performance and luxury standouts.

One short paragraph on each, what makes it worth a look, and where it sits on price.

First, a quick definition. When I say EV in this guide, I mean a BEV – a battery-electric vehicle, or in plainer terms, a fully-electric one.

That’s a vehicle powered solely by an electric motor and a rechargeable battery, plugged in to charge, with no petrol or diesel engine on board at all.

It’s worth being clear, because “EV” gets thrown around loosely.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and regular hybrids both still have a combustion engine, so they’re not in this guide. This guide is for fully-electric vehicles only.

Hybrid vs PHEV vs Electric explainer »

I’ve also stuck to passenger vehicles, utes and vans, and left out trucks and buses.

A note on price. The figures here are recommended retail, GST inclusive, not including ORC (on-road costs), for the entry variant of each model. It’s a starting point for comparison, not a quote. Prices move, variants come and go, and the cheapest version isn’t always the one that suits.

Which brings us to the useful bit. Whatever you’re looking at on this page, Driveline can arrange it on a lease or finance plan.

Learn about car leasing »

And because we’re an independent broker, not tied to any one brand or dealer, that applies to every single vehicle listed here, not just a favoured few.

Our range of EVs available to lease or finance »

If a monthly figure matters more to your business than a sticker price, that’s exactly the conversation we’re built for.

Compare EV vs petrol vs hybrid running costs »

A note on distributors. Alongside each vehicle in the list you’ll also see its New Zealand distributor. This is the company that imports the brand and looks after parts, warranty and servicing in NZ. Where a brand is handled by a larger group, we’ve noted that too (for example, BYD is imported by Ateco). There’s a full distributor list at the end of the article too.

One caveat. The EV market moves fast. Faster than this guide can stay current. New models land, others sell out or get updated, and distribution arrangements change.

So I’ve dated this guide and will update it regularly, but if you spot something that’s shifted, or want the latest on a model that’s caught your eye, get in touch and we’ll give you the current picture.

Current as at September 2026. Prices are indicative RRP incl GST, entry variant, not including ORC. Use the index below to jump to a category.

1. Small Cars & Hatchbacks

City-friendly hatches and the most affordable ways into a brand-new fully-electric vehicle.

BYD Atto 1

BYD Atto 1 EV lease or finance

The cheapest way into a brand-new EV in New Zealand, and a thoroughly likeable little city car. The entry Essential handles the urban basics. Step up to the Premium and the bigger battery adds more range and a useful extra shove of power. If your driving rarely leaves the suburbs, it makes a lot of sense.

  • From $30,990 incl GST · 220-310km WLTP · FWD hatch · BYD Auto NZ (Ateco)
  • Lease or finance BYD Atto 1 through Driveline »

Dongfeng Box

Dongfeng Box EV lease or finance

The Box arrived as the first full EV under $30k and marked Dongfeng’s local debut. Early safety-rating wobbles have been sorted with a 2026 relaunch carrying more airbags and improved credentials. It’s a stylish small hatch with a premium-feeling cabin that punches above its price.

  • From $31,990 incl GST · 317km WLTP · FWD hatch · Dongfeng NZ (Armstrong’s)
  • Lease or finance Dongfeng Box through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Geely EX2

Geely EX2 EV lease or finance

Geely’s smallest EV is a rear-drive city hatch that undercuts almost everything on this page – proof the sub-$33k new EV is now a real thing. Two trims, the Complete and the longer-legged Inspire, cover the range. Modest on paper, but for pure urban duty it’s an affordable, sensible way in from a brand with solid engineering behind it.

  • From $32,990 incl GST · 252-345km WLTP · RWD hatch · Geely NZ (NordEast-Giltrap)
  • Lease or finance Geely EX2 through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

GAC Aion UT

GAC Aion UT EV lease or finance

GAC’s compact hatch aims squarely at younger urban buyers, with bright colours and a well-kitted cabin – heated steering wheel and heated seats even on the entry car. The Lux adds a panoramic roof, power tailgate and wireless charging. It’s a late arrival to the small-hatch scrap, and a well-equipped one.

  • From $39,990 incl GST · 430km WLTP · FWD hatch · GAC NZ (Gismo)
  • Lease or finance GAC Aion UT through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

MG4 Urban

MG MG4 Urban EV lease or finance

Not to be confused with the standard MG4. This is a different car on a different platform, pitched as the budget option. It’s front-drive whereas the pricier MG4 is rear-drive. The Urban, however, comes with a larger battery for a very useful 400km range. Sharp value for a city runabout, and one of the cheapest ways into a new EV hatch.

  • From $38,990 incl GST · 400km WLTP · FWD hatch · MG Motor NZ
  • Lease or finance MG4 Urban through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

MG4

MG MG4 EV lease or finance

The MG4 sold over 2,000 units in its first year and won a swag of Car of the Year awards. For 2026 it was refreshed and the range simplified to two: the sensible Essence 64 and the quick 320kW X Power, which hits 0-100 in 3.8 seconds. Rear-drive, an upgraded cabin, and still one of the most convincing affordable EVs on the market.

  • From $44,990 incl GST · 435-452km WLTP · RWD/AWD hatch · MG Motor NZ
  • Lease or finance MG4 through Driveline »
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓
  • Also listed under Performance (X Power).

Honda Super-One

Honda Super One EV lease or finance

A slice of Japanese kei-car fun, widened and boosted for export. Boost mode lifts it from 47kW to 70kW, and the styling nods hard to the classic 1983 City Turbo II. This is as much a cult car in waiting as it is city transport. The Kuro Edition adds black detailing and a spoiler. Modest range, big character.

  • From $41,900 incl GST · 206km WLTP · FWD hatch · Honda NZ
  • Lease or finance Honda Super-One through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Mini Cooper (3-door)

Mini Cooper SE EV lease or finance

The Cooper was the first electric Mini, and this all-new model sits alongside the petrol range with the same go-kart character intact. There are now three tiers: Cooper E, the punchier SE, and the 190kW JCW hot hatch at the top. Premium pricing, but nothing else drives quite like it.

  • From $66,990 incl GST · 305-402km WLTP · FWD hatch · BMW Group NZ
  • Lease or finance Mini Cooper (3-door) through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓
  • Also listed under Performance (JCW).

MG Cyberster

MG Cyberster EV lease or finance

Yes, MG builds a two-seat electric sports car again, and with scissor doors! The rear-drive single-motor is the brand-appropriate choice and no slouch at 5.2 seconds from 0-100, while the AWD version hits it in a supercar-baiting 3.2 seconds. Stunning to look at, and a real halo car for the brand.

  • From $109,990 incl GST · 443-507km WLTP · RWD/AWD roadster · MG Motor NZ
  • Lease or finance MG Cyberster through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

2. Small & Compact SUVs

The busiest corner of the market – compact electric SUVs to suit almost every budget, from value newcomers to premium badges.

Arcfox T1

Arcfox T1 EV lease or finance

Arcfox is BAIC’s premium brand, but the T1 that launched the marque here is very much a budget compact crossover, and a well-equipped one too. A big 15.6-inch screen, 360-degree camera and congestion-assist cruise control all feature. Sharp launch pricing makes it one of the cheapest ways into a new electric SUV.

  • From $34,990 incl GST · 310km WLTP · FWD SUV · BAIC/Arcfox NZ (Armstrong’s)
  • Lease or finance Arcfox T1 through Driveline.

GWM Ora 5

GWM Ora 5 SUV EV lease or finance

The Ora hatch is gone; the Ora 5 SUV replaces it, and it’s bigger in every direction. Two trims: the Lux and the better-appointed Ultra, which adds a power tailgate, panoramic glass roof and dual-zone climate. A sensible, value-focused small SUV from a brand that’s building a solid local footprint.

  • From $36,990 incl GST · 430km WLTC · FWD SUV · GWM NZ
  • Lease or finance GWM Ora 5 through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Dongfeng Vigo

Dongfeng Vigo EV lease or finance

Dongfeng bills the Vigo as the best-value EV-SUV in the country, and on price it’s hard to argue. The clever interior is the pitch. It has a split tailgate rated to 150kg. Practical, affordable, and a bit different.

  • From $39,990 incl GST · 340km WLTP · FWD SUV · Dongfeng NZ (Armstrong’s)
  • Lease or finance Dongfeng Vigo through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

BYD Atto 2

BYD Atto 2 EV lease or finance

The Atto 2 slots neatly between the Atto 1 city car and the larger Atto 3, filling out BYD’s compact-SUV line. Two trims, Dynamic and Premium, share the same powertrain. The choice is therefore about kit, not go. A tidy, sensibly-sized family option from the brand that’s been crushing local EV sales.

  • From $40,990 incl GST · 335-430km · FWD SUV · BYD Auto NZ (Ateco)
  • Lease or finance BYD Atto 2 through Driveline »
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Omoda E5

Omoda E5 EV lease or finance

Omoda is Chery’s style-led brand, and the E5 is its all-electric compact SUV. It’s a very different-looking thing to the petrol C5 it shares showroom space with. Two trims, the entry BX and top EX, with plenty of tech throughout. As with most of the Chery stable, sharp pricing is the calling card.

  • From $40,990 incl GST · 430km · FWD SUV · Chery NZ
  • Lease or finance Omoda E5 through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Jaecoo J5

Jaecoo J5 EV Omoda E5 EV lease or finance

Where Chery’s Omoda brand chases urban style, Jaecoo goes for a chunkier, off-road-flavoured look. Think of the J5 as the rugged-styled cousin to the Omoda E5 on the same platform. No actual four-wheel drive, though, it’s front-drive only. But it does get easy-clean, anti-bacterial “pet friendly” upholstery.

  • From $42,990 incl GST · 402km · FWD SUV · Chery NZ
  • Lease or finance Jaecoo J5 through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30 EV lease or finance

Small, but a big deal for Volvo. It’s the most eco-focused car it’s built, and also the fastest. The top Cross Country hits 0-100 in 3.6 seconds. Recycled materials fill a lovely cabin, and it looks sharp with it. Proof that “compact” and “premium” aren’t mutually exclusive.

  • From $63,990 incl GST · 450-476km WLTP · RWD/AWD SUV · Volvo NZ (NordEast-Giltrap)
  • Lease or finance Volvo EX30 through Driveline »

  • Also listed under Performance (Cross Country).

Volvo EX40

Volvo EX40 EV lease or finance

The car formerly known as the XC40 Recharge, now renamed and pure-electric only. It’s been with us since 2017 and wears its years well, arriving now solely in top-spec dual-motor form. That makes it quick (4.8 seconds from 0-100) and very well equipped, if pricier than its compact dimensions suggest.

  • From $99,990 incl GST · 485km · AWD SUV · Volvo NZ (NordEast-Giltrap)
  • Lease or finance Volvo EX40 through Driveline.
  • Get a monthly rate using the quick form at the bottom of this page ↓

Zeekr X

Zeekr X EV lease or finance

Zeekr’s entry model shares a platform with the Volvo EX30 (both sit under the Geely umbrella) so it’s a compact SUV with premium underpinnings. Rear-drive or a very rapid AWD (3.8 seconds 0-100), both on the same 66kWh battery. Stylish, quick, and the affordable door into a luxury EV brand.

  • From $59,900 incl GST · 440-470km · RWD/AWD SUV · Zeekr NZ (NordEast-Giltrap)

Tesla Model 3 EV lease or finance

The car that made EVs mainstream, still going strong after a comprehensive “Highland” update sharpened the styling and hushed the cabin. Rear-drive Standard and Long Range AWD cover most buyers. Electric Cars in NZ: Frequently Asked Questions

How many EVs are there in New Zealand?
There are 90 fully-electric (BEV) models on sale new in New Zealand as at September 2026, spread across more than 30 brands, from sub-$31,000 city cars to luxury flagships. That figure keeps climbing as new brands arrive, most of them from China. Our list above covers every one currently on sale, grouped by type.

What EVs are available in New Zealand?
Just about every category is now covered. There are small hatches (BYD Atto 1, MG4, Mini Cooper), family SUVs (Tesla Model Y, Kia EV5, BYD Sealion 7), luxury models (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, right up to a Rolls-Royce), electric utes (Toyota Hilux BEV, Riddara RD6), people movers, and a growing range of electric vans. The full list of EVs in NZ is set out above, sorted by size and body type so you can find what fits.

What’s the cheapest electric car in NZ?
The most affordable new EV in New Zealand is the BYD Atto 1, from $30,990 (RRP incl GST) as at September 2026. A handful of others sit close behind it under $40,000, including the Dongfeng Box and the GWM Ora 5. On a lease or finance plan, the monthly cost can make even pricier models more accessible than the sticker suggests.

What’s the best-selling EV in New Zealand?
The Tesla Model Y has been New Zealand’s best-selling EV, and in mid-2026 it was the best-selling new vehicle of any kind, petrol or otherwise. BYD is the fastest-rising challenger, though its sales are spread across more models (the Atto 3, Atto 2 and Atto 1). (Sales rankings shift month to month, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a fixed order.)

What’s the best EV to buy in NZ?
There’s no single answer. The best EV depends entirely on what you need it for. For a city runabout, an affordable hatch like the MG4 or BYD Atto 1 makes sense; for family duty, the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV5 are strong all-rounders; for towing or worksite use, an electric ute or the longer-range SUVs suit better. The smarter question is usually which vehicle fits your monthly budget and use case once it’s on the right finance structure, which is exactly where an independent broker like Driveline Fleet can help.

What EVs should I stay away from?
Rather than any single model to avoid, it’s worth watching a few things before you buy. Check who stands behind the brand in New Zealand and how big its dealer and service network is. Some newer marques are sold through just one or two outlets, so if support falls short there’s nowhere else to turn. Consider resale and depreciation, charging speed and compatibility, and whether a brand’s local presence is well established or still finding its feet. Our distributor list above shows who stands behind each brand here, which is a good place to start.

Are there any EV deals available in New Zealand?
Yes, and they’re not always where you’d expect. Runout and ex-lease models often represent the best value, and manufacturer discounts come and go throughout the year.

As a leasing & financing company buying vehicles in volume, Driveline secures manufacturer discounts the average business would never see on its own, and we pass those savings on.

So the best “deal” often isn’t a sticker discount at all; it’s the buying power and finance structure behind the purchase. Get in touch and we’ll tell you where the value is right now.

The Driveline Bottom Line

That’s the full picture of what’s on sale right now – 88 fully-electric vehicle listings, and counting.

It’s a lot to weigh up, and the right answer depends far more on your business than on any spec sheet:

  • How far you drive
  • What you carry
  • What stacks up once it’s on a lease or finance plan rather than a sticker price

That’s where we come in.

Driveline isn’t tied to any brand or dealer, so we can put any vehicle on this page (or one that isn’t) into a lease or finance package built around how your business actually runs.
