National and ACT’s looming EV rebate changes have inspired buyers to bring their purchase forward and take advantage while they can.
EV rebate changes light fire under EV sales
We have experienced a significant increase in enquiries for EVs and Hybrids ever since the polls started showing National/ACT ahead of Labour/Greens.
It has accelerated post-election, with all enquirers super aware of the planned EV rebate changes and proposed cutoff date of 31 December at the latest.
We’ve done our best to educate our audience that the rebate applies to the date the vehicle is registered, not the date you sign on the dotted line to buy it. This has seen many buyers taking action early to avoid paying more after the rebate expires.
If you are in a position to bring your EV or Hybrid purchase forward, we highly recommend talking to us sooner than later.
It’s not just EVs & Hybrids though. The Clean Car Rebates also apply to small fuel-efficient cars too. The rebate on low-emitting petrol vehicles isn’t as high, but it’s still a rebate. And with inflation pushing the price of everything ever upwards, any purchase now will not only give you a tax credit, but beat any looming price increases too.
Enquiries we’ve been receiving have been split quite equally between small hybrids like the Suzuki Vitara Hybrid, Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and EVs such as BYD Atto 3, MG4 and especially Tesla Model Y.
Hatch survey on EV rebate changes
A recent survey run by Hatch Invest asked Hatch investors whether the incoming government’s pledge to remove the Clean Car Discount by 31 December this year could impact their plans. We found the results quite surprising…
- 18% – Won’t affect me because I already have an EV.
- 18% – I’d hoped to buy an EV in the next 2 years but will likely miss the discount.
- 12% – Won’t affect me because I can’t afford an EV anyway.
- 5% – Won’t affect me because I already have a Hybrid.
We suspect Hatch investors don’t know about Driveline because $1,069 +GST per month for a Tesla Model Y is much easier to stomach than stumping up with $67,500 cash.
